We gave him task that in our mind was just about as bad as your retyping example. He spent a summer running a database migration app, one by one. Never complained. Came back this summer, because he had enjoyed his first summer job. <br /><br />At the end of this summer, he learned that there was also a batch mode in which the migration app could be run. No one ever mentioned it. It could be that it was introduced right after he left and someone else needed to do anything of the sort of work he was doing.<br /><br />In a mob, we would have fixed this in the first day and it would have saved months of his life.
